I would like to travel from Moscow to Vladivostok. I wonder how much it costs train ticket Moscow - Vladivostok?

I looked the cost of tickets on the website of Russian Railways. The cheapest train ticket Moscow - Vladivostok (train number 002M) in April 2011 is 7,800 rubles, the most expensive ticket costs 38,000 rubles.

Looking at different web pages I can see different statements about the total distance between Moscow and Vladivostok. Some say 10800km and it indeed looks like a long road looking at the map but when I add the different stages on the highways I end up with a much lower number of kilometers. Can anyone give me a correct answer? I am also wondering about average distance pr day and how far we can go in one day and in the other end how much time will we use when roads are bad.
Is it safe to drive at night? Can we camp outside the car in tent or do we need to book hotels.
I have a lot of questions but hope that someone can help me with this for a start.

That's what I found on Russian forum of travel:
In general, the state road surface on the federal highway can be assessed as good.
Not all gasoline have 98.
Driving on the highway at night can be, but some people do not recommend (on the bad sections of road).
Sleep in tents certainly possible, but in hotels is more convenient.
According to information from the reports of travelers in an average day you can count pass from 600 to 1200 kilometers. If you are intend to take some time and inspect the interesting places to spent on travel about 3 weeks.
The exact distance from Moscow to Vladivostok will try to find.

Thank you for information so far. This gets more exciting every day. When it comes to distance it is important for planning and budget.

Another thing is the car when we arrive. Is it possible to put it in a container and ship it to western cities or Murmansk??
We do not intend to drive all the way back again on the same road and all options will probably take much longer.

Next question. Diesel versus petrol. What is the best when it comes to regular supply along the route.

The distance from Vladivostok to Moscow depends on the route that you go. There are different variants. For example part of the path can go through Kazakhstan or not. There are different variants detours cities. Therefore, different distances.
Many Russian buy cars in Vladivostok and send them to Moscow by railroad. I look for companies offering this service and posted information here later.
Diesel or petrol?
Diesel fuel in Russia is not always the best quality. But Russia has a lot of diesel cars and they all work. In winter, I advise only petrol. In the summer - I can not advise. I use petrol car.
