End of Mayan calendar is a reason to travel

Many people know that the Mayan calendar has the end December 21, 2012. Many believe that the ancient Maya people predicted that this day come "End of the World". But for the optimists this is an occasion for fun.

Mayan Empire existed in the territory of today southern Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras and Belize. There are many Mayan archaeological sites in Mexico, Belize and Guatemala. Tourist business in these countries is trying to use the future "End of the World" on the Mayan calendar to attract tourists.

In the Caracol Archaeological Reserve in western Belize, the National Institute of History and Culture will hold four special events dedicated to this event. Special themed tours in 2012 will be organized in two days of the solstice (21 June - the summer solstice, and December 21 - the winter solstice), and two days of the equinox (March 21 and September 22). Archaeologists will tell the tourists about the culture of the Maya, will offer traditional local dishes. The number of tourists who will be able to take part in the events is limited.

Other archaeological sites are also preparing for this event. Many places will be musical performances, torch processions, excursions. The predicted end of the world tends to turn into a holiday festival. Toward the end of 2012 the proposal of various excursions associated with the Mayan people, will increase.
