Metro station “Alexandrovsky Sad” (Aleksandrovskiy Garden, Александровский Сад) is located in the heart of Moscow, near the intersection of “Vozdvizenka” and “Mokhovaya” streets. Distance from the station to Red Square is approximately 700 meters. Metro station “Alexandrovsky Sad” is the station of “Filevskaya” line of Moscow metro (line 4). Near the station, along the west wall of the Kremlin is the “AlexandrovskySad” park. This explains the choice of the station name.
The station has side-boarding platforms (railroad tracks are in the center, platforms for passengers are located on both sides of the hall), what is different from other stations of the Moscow metro. It is known as a Parisian Style. There is a bridge that connects two platforms over the railroad tracks.
The station was opened on 15 May 1935. During its existence, the station was renamed several times. It was called “The Street of the Comintern” until 24 December 1946. Later, until 1990, it has name “Kalininskaya”. In 1990, the station was also a few days called “Vozdvizenskaya”. From 5 July 1990 the station has name “Alexandrovskiy sad’.
The station is part of the largest transportation hub of the Moscow Metro, which consists of four stations and connects four subway lines. From “Aleksandrovskiy Sad” station you can go to the “Arbatskaja” station (Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya line) and “Biblioteka imeni Lenina” station (Sokolnicheskaya line). Through these stations is possible to go to the “Borovitskaya” station of “Serpukhovsko-Timiryazevskaya” line. (There is not direct transfer to the “Borovitskaya” station).
Near the metro “Aleksandrovskiy sad” are located:
