Many surprises are happening in our time. In June 2016, there were several unexpected events. Mention may be made, for example, the UK exit of the EU and a good game of Iceland national football team. For residents of Russia it is the restoration of cooperation with Turkey and the lifting of the ban on travel of Russian tourists to the country.

Turkey has for several years been the most popular destination for a summer holiday among Russians. Turkey's popularity among Russian tourists can be attributed to several factors:

  • There are excellent beaches, warm sea and good weather.
  • Hotels and package tours to Turkey are one of the cheapest among the popular holiday countries.
  • Visa is not required for residents of Russia to spend some weeks during the holidays.

Sales of tours and charter flights to Turkey have been stopped at the end of 2015. Greece came in first place by popularity among Russian tourists in 2016.

After the lifting of the ban, Russian tourism companies have started to sell tours to Turkey. Tour companies have reported a large number of those wishing to visit Turkey this summer. It is expected that soon will be resumed charter flights to Antalya (the most popular tourist region of Turkey). The first time aircraft flights will be operated from Moscow and St. Petersburg.
But the most popular resort region among residents Russia continues to be the coast of the Black Sea, including Crimea and Sochi.

November 24, 2015 the Turkish Air Force shot down a Russian military aircraft in Syria.
Russia imposed a ban on the sale of tours and the organization of charter flights to Turkey.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has sent Russian President Vladimir Putin a letter of apology for the destruction of the Russian Su-24 June 27, 2016.
June 30, Russian President Putin signed a decree which lifted the ban on charter flights and package tours sale into Turkey.
