Events
Dates of the main events of Venice carnival. This is preliminary information, changes are possible.
The main events of the Venice carnival are repeated every year, but these events dates are changing. The theme of the carnival is usually announced one to two months before the event. The carnival ends at Fat Tuesday, 40 days before Easter. Carnival starts on Saturday, two weeks before Fat Tuesday in Venice.
Festival organizers change the program a little every year. New events are possible. Check the information at the end of 2023 on the official website or here.

Main events of the Venice Carnival 2024
The most interesting carnival events will take place on weekends. Choose a weekend in which you would like to visit Venice. This is preliminary information about the 2024 carnival. More accurate information will appear later.
Date: January 27, 2024. Saturday.
Grand Opening of the Venice Carnival 2024 will be held 27 and 28 January 2024.
Carnival Street Shows.
Show time:
Street show in Venice from 11:00 to 12:30 and from 14:30 to 18:00.
Street show in Mestre from 11:30 to 12:00 and from 15:30 to 18:30.
Date: January 28, 2024. Sunday.
It will be the second day. Water parade is the main event of the day.
Carnival parade on the water. 11:00 - 13:00. People in carnival costumes on decorated boats will proceed from the Punta della Dogana area (where the Church of Santa Maria della Salute is located) to the Rialto Bridge.
A festival is planned after the parade in Campo Erberia square, not far from the Rialto Bridge.

February 3, 2024 (11:00 - 19:00). Carnival events on the stage of St. Mark's Square. Street Show, Performance of the Twelve Marys and Carnival Mask Parade.
Start of main events- The Best Carnival Mask contest.
Beginning of the Festa delle Marie festival. The festival begins with a procession of Mary festival participants along the Grand Canal. At 16:00 the participants will be introduced to the public.

February 4, 2024 (11:30) The Association "Friends of the Venice Carnival" will perform ancient dances in ancient costumes in St. Mark's Square.
February 4, 2024 (15.30). The historical group "Le Maschere di Mario del '700 Veneziano" will present the program "Historical Dances" in Piazza San Marco.
Carnival in Chirinago. 14:00 - 18:00. Carnival entertainment for adults and children will take place in Piazza San Giorgio in Chirinago. Chirignago is a district in mainland Venice.
Flight of the Angel. For some reason, this event was not held in the previous year.

February 9, 2024, Friday (15:00 - 17:30). Celebrating Chinese New Year in Venice. A carnival parade in traditional Chinese style will take place in Mestre. Route: from Piazza Donatori di Sanghe, via Via Rosa, Largo Difesa Giulia, Via Poerio to Piazza Ferretto. The celebration will continue on the square.

February 10, 2024 (14:00 - 16:00). Traveling musicians - musical performance. Students from several institutes will walk from Campo San Trovaso along Zattere to Campo San Agnese. There will be music throughout the route and at Campo San Agnese.
Carnival parade in Marghera. 15:00 - 17:00. Route: Via Bartolomeo Benvenuto, Piazza Tommaso Gar, Piazza Concordia, Piazza Mercato, Piazza Municipio, Piazza San Antonio, Via Rizzardi, Piazza Giovanacci, Via Toffoli, Piazza Rossarol, Via Rossarol. Marghera is a municipality (borough) of the comune of Venice, Italy.
February 10 (15:30 - 16:00). The historical group “Nobiltà Sabauda” will perform “The Silk Road between the Baroque and the East” in Piazza San Marco.

February 12, 2024 (Monday) 15:00 - 17:00. Parade of carnival floats in Mestre. The parade will go from Via Piave to Via San Pio. Mestre is a district in mainland Venice.
February 12, 2024 - 20:00 - 23:00 (Monday). Elections of Mary. Maria 2024 will be chosen from 12 applicants at the La Fenice Theater.
February 12, 2024 (12:00 to 13:00). Traditional Korean dance art (Talchum Mask Dance Show) will be presented in St. Mark's Square.
February 12, 2024 (16:00 - 17:00). Carnivals of the world. Carnival traditions from different regions of Italy will be presented. Location: St. Mark's Square.
February 12, 2024. The Arsenal Carnival Experience night party will be held at the Arsenal from 10:00 pm to 3:00 am.
The ceremony of the coronation of Maria 2024 (award ceremony) will take place on the stage in St. Mark's Square. Maria in 2024 will be named from among 12 contenders. Participants of the contest will arrive by boat to St. Mark's Square.
February 13, 2024 (11:30 - 12:30). Parade of Chinese costumes. You can see traditional Chinese clothing from the Suzhou Silk Museum. Then a performance is planned with fan dances, dragon dances, etc. Location: St. Mark's Square.

February 13, 2023. 15:00 - 17:00. Carnival parade in Zelarino. (Zelarino is located on the mainland, northwest of Mestre.)
February 13, 2024 18:00 to 20:00. Show on the water: “Terra incognita. The extraordinary journey of Marco" will be shown on the territory of the Arsenal.
February 13, 2024. The Arsenal Carnival Experience night party will be held at the Arsenal from 10:00 pm to 3:00 am.
Flight of the Lion (Svolo del Leon). The flag with the image of the Golden Lion (the symbol of Venice) at 17:00 will fly over the Plaza San Marco. This event is a symbolic closing of the carnival.
Valentine's Day will be held on Sunday, February 14. We assume that relevant events will be organized in the city on that day.
February 14, 2024. Valentine's Day on Lido Island. "Lido in Love": Valentine's Day decorations and selfie area.

Carnival Street Shows.
Street shows will take place in the squares and streets of the city during the carnival in 2024.
Usually street shows take place not only in the central part of Venice, but also in other places, for example in Mestre.
Dates: January 27 and 28, 2024; February 3, 4, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 2024.
Mestre Carnival Street Show.
Some carnival events will take place also in Mestre. Mestre is a region of Venice, located on the mainland. These days on the square of Piazza Ferretto the audience will be entertained by artists and musicians.
The carnival parade is planned for February 12, 2024.
Festival in the Arsenal.
This event is intended primarily for young people. The festival will be held in Tese dell'Arsenale.

(Arsenal is a former shipyard, a place to hold events now.)
Show on the water: “Terra incognita. The extraordinary journey of Marco" will be shown on the territory of the Arsenal. Artists from the Ilotopie company, The East Dance Company, and the Venetian association Vela al Terzo take part in the creation of the show.
The show will be shown on February 2, 3, 4, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13 (18:00 to 20:00).

February 10, 2024. After 23:00 and until the morning. Perplex London Party at the Arsenal. Music and dancing in two halls in the complex of former shipyards and weapons warehouses (Arsenal). (Perplex creates alternate realities based on real-life themes.)
The Arsenal Carnival Experience night party will be held at the Arsenal from 10:00 pm to 3:00 am. Dates: 3, 9, 11, 12, 13 February 2024. Dress code is optional. A transfer is planned (opposite the Hotel Savoia & Jolanda).
Concert at Palazzetto Bru Zane.
Dates: January 21 (15:30); February 1 (19:30), 9 (19:30), 10 (19:30), 11 (17:00), February 25 (15:30) 2024.
Evening concerts and performances will take place at the Center for French Romantic Music "Palazzetto Bru Zane - Center de musique romantique française". Paid entrance.
The opera La Bohème by Giacomo Puccini will be shown at La Fenice Theater on February 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 2024. Don't miss the opportunity to see it.
You can go ice skating. The skating rink will be open in Campo San Polo and Piazza Mercato (in Marghera) from January 27 to February 13, 2024.

It is said that there are two worst times to visit Venice: the days of floods and the days of carnival. Come to Venice at any other time. You should definitely visit this city.
Things to do
- Stroll through the Piazza San Marco square, take a look at beautiful people in carnival costumes. Most of those dressed in carnival costumes people will be happy to take pictures with you (and they will not take money for it).
- See the most beautiful places in Venice and take photos (selfie). You can not make such photos anywhere else.
- Buy a mask from a merchant on the street and join the participants of the carnival, walk along the canals and stroll through the streets of the city.
- Buy (rent) a real Venetian carnival costume in one of the studios and become a participant in the carnival. Become a part of this beautiful city and colorful carnival.
- Buy a ticket to a costume party (dinner) and enjoy the community of people like you, old music and Venetian cuisine.
- Take a gondola ride through the canals of Venice. Gondoliers can be found at berths in many places in the city.
- Choose and book a guided tour or a personal guide. You will learn many interesting things and see the most beautiful places.
- Book a classic gondola ride or Grand Canal boat tour.
The skating rink will operate on Campo San Polo square.
Costume balls and Dinners
Many masquerade balls will be organized during the carnival in Venice for wealthy tourists and locals. It is necessary to buy or rent a costume to enter the Masquerade. It is recommended to buy tickets in advance (limited number of tickets).
