Montmartre is the highest place in Paris. Therefore, this place was convenient for the construction of windmills in the past. Only two (or three) of the thirteen pre-existing windmills have been preserved. One of the mills is located in a private area and access to tourists is impossible.

The Radet Mill is located at the corner of Lepic and Girardon streets, about 400 meters from the Sacré Kerr basilica. It is one of the popular attractions of Montmartre. You can not only see it and take a photo the famous mill. It will be a good experience to go to a restaurant that was visited by many famous artists. Millstones and other parts of the mill's design are preserved in the interior of the restaurant.

The Radet mill was built in 1717. In 1834, the mill was transformed into a tavern, which was called the Moulin de la Galette. Currently, the mill is at the disposal of the "Moulin de la Galette" restaurant and is the most visible decoration of the restaurant.

The inhabitants of Montmartre loved to spend time in the tavern. The mill was depicted in the paintings of many famous artists: Georges Michel, Theodore Rousseau, Jean-Baptiste Corot, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Henri Toulouse-Lautrec, Santiago Rusignol, Ramon Casas, Vincent van Gogh and Pablo Picasso. The windmill is an architectural monument since 1939 and is protected by the state.

In 1812, French troops under the leadership of Napoleon attacked Russia, captured and burned Moscow. As often happens, the war returned to where it began. The owner of the mill, Mr. Debray, fought against the Russian troops and was killed in 1814.

Address: 83 Rue Lepic, 75018 Paris, France.
