Governor of St. Petersburg has canceled the "Festival of beer" in St. Petersburg. The festival was planned to hold in St. Petersburg Sports and Concert Complex June 30, 2012. The reason for cancellation of the festival has not yet been officially named. The media reported that abolition of the festival may be related to changes in the legislation of Russia. Under the law beer equated with other alcoholic beverages, and be subject to the many limitations associated with alcohol advertising and consumption. As a possible cause also is called the governor's personal position to alcohol, and his struggle for the promotion of healthy lifestyles.
Many residents support the decision of the Governor of St. Petersburg. Collection of large number of people consuming alcoholic beverages does not show the good side of town. Festival of Beer and kvass was held in St. Petersburg since 1997. The first time it was held in the central square, and then was moved to the area next to the Sports & Exhibition Complex. In recent years the festival was called the "Festival of music and recreation." Not excluded the possibility of holding a festival in the future.
