Kazansky railway station

Kazansky railway station is one of nine railway stations of Moscow. Until 1894 the station was called “Ryazansky station”. It is one of the largest in Europe and one of the busiest railway stations in Moscow by number of passengers. The Moscow metro is the most convenient public transport to get to Kazansky railway station.

Kazansky railway station

Kazansky station is located at a distance about three kilometers north-east of the Kremlin and Red Square in Moscow. The station building is located on Komsomolskaya Square, between streets Novoryazanskaya, Kalanchevskaya and Krasnoprudnaya. (Komsomolskaya Square is sometimes called the square of three stations.) The railway station has an exit directly to the Komsomolskaya metro station. You can meet several spellings the name of the station: Казанский вокзал, Kazansky Rail Terminal, Kazanskiy station, Moscow Kazanskaya railway station.

Kazansky railway station serves long-distance trains, following in the east, southeast and south directions of Moscow. The eastbound directions running trains go through Murom and Kazan (and further in the direction of Yekaterinburg). Trains departing to the south-easterly direction, run through Ryazan. Some commuter trains are also departing from the station. Kazansky railway station is also serving international trains, linking Russia with Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.

The station serves passengers traveling to the cities: Adler, Anapa, Astana, Vladikavkaz, Voronezh, Grozny, Yekaterinburg, Yoshkar-Ola, Kazan, Kurgan, Magnitogorsk, Makhachkala, Nizhny Novgorod, Novorossiysk, Omsk, Penza, Rostov-on-Don, Ryazan, Samara, Saransk, Tolyatti, Tashkent, Ulyanovsk, Ufa, Cheboksary, Chelyabinsk.

Construction of the modern building according to the design by architect Alexey Shchusev started in 1913 and ended in 1940. Tower of the Kazan station stylized after tower of Kazan Kremlin (citadel city of Kazan). Tower is crowned by steeple with a dragon, which was depicted in the ancient emblem of the city of Kazan.

There is a waiting room for passengers, luggage storage (be careful when using) in the station. There are several cafes and restaurants in the station building and nearby.

It is the best way to get from the station to the Kremlin and Red Square by metro. Use the red metro line to the stations Okhotny Ryad or Biblioteka Imeni Lenina. (Red square in Moscow.)

Sheremetyevo Airport can be reached by Aeroexpress from Belorussky railway station (Belorusskaya metro station) or by bus from the metro stations Planernaya and Rechnoy Vokzal.

Domodedovo Airport can be reached by train from Paveletsky train station.

Vnukovo Airport can be reached by Aeroexpress train from Kievsky train station, or by bus from the metro stations of the Yugo-Zapadnaya and Octyabrskaya.
