Sorrento

The small town Sorrento is well known outside Italy. It is located at a distance approximately 45 kilometers to south of Naples. The city occupies an area of about 9 km². The city population is 16,500 people. In the days of ancient Rome in the city had their villas wealthy Romans. Later, at various times many famous people lived here, such as Goethe, Wagner, Nietzsche, Gorky, Byron, Stendhal, Enrico Caruso, Luciano Pavarotti.

Sorrento is located on the terrace, at an altitude of about 50 meters above sea level. Piazza Torquato Tasso is the main square. The main town street “Via Italia” passes through the town. Large number of shops and restaurants are on the street.

Several beaches are on the coast near the town. Most beaches in Sorrento are small and belong to different hotels. Free beach is near the port “Marina Piccola”.

Sorrento has many small hotels in different price categories. Costs of living in hotels, which are located near the sea, are somewhat higher. Some of the located near the coast hotels have their own beaches. Rooms in such hotels have a wonderful view of the sea.

Sorrento is easy to reach from Naples by bus or by boat from the Naples passenger port (Molo Beverello terminal). Buses, hydrofoils and ferries go to Sorrento several times a day. You can also get to Sorrento by train from Naples Central Station.
