Balearic Islands

Balearic Islands are one of the most popular regions for vacations in Europe. The largest and most popular tourist destination islands of the archipelago are Majorca, Minorca, Ibiza and Formentera. Balearic Islands archipelago is an autonomous community of Spain. The administrative center of the Balearic Islands is Palma city. The islands are a popular place for summer holidays for tourists from many European countries.

The Balearic Islands are located in the western part of the Mediterranean Sea, to south of mainland of Spain. Distance from the Barcelona city to the “Palma de Mallorca” is approximately 220 kilometers. Islands are located in the zone of warm, Mediterranean climate. The warmest months of the year are July and August. The best time to visit the Balearic Islands is from April to October.

The Mallorca Island

The Mallorca Island (Majorca) is the largest island of the archipelago. The island covers area 3640 km². The island is home to about 870,000 people. The coastline of Mallorca is 554 kilometers long.
Mallorca is a popular place for summer holidays for inhabitants of many countries. Most tourists come to the island from Germany, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Poland and Scandinavian countries. Tourists are attracted here by high quality service, good beaches and warm climate.
The most popular with tourist places are located in the south and east of the island. The island has a number of good, sandy beaches. Among the popular resort located on the island are called: Cala Ratjada, Alcudia, Cala d'Or, Cala Morai.

You can reach the island by plane or by sea (ferry) from Valencia, Barcelona, Denia, Sète and Ibiza. The largest city on the island is the city “Palma” (Palma de Mallorca).

The administrative center of the island is Palma city (Palma de Mallorca). The city is located in the western part of the island. The city's population is about 408,000 people. Not far from the city of Palma often spend their free time members of the royal family of Spain. According to statistics, every year the island is visited by approximately 12 million tourists.

Airport of Palma de Mallorca (Aeropuerto de Palma de Mallorca) is third by passenger traffic (after Madrid and Barcelona) airport in Spain. The airport is located at a distance about 8 kilometers to east from the city center. The airport is also used as the base of the Spanish Air Force.

Menorca Island

Minorca Island located at a distance approximately 40 kilometers to east of the Mallorca island. This is one of the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean Sea. The population of the Menorca is approximately 94,000 people. The island is less mountainous in comparing with the Mallorca Island. The highest point of the island, El Toro (Monte Toro), is 358 meters above sea level. The largest island cities are Mahon and Ciutadella.

Menorca airport (Mahón Airport, Aeropuerto de Menorca) located in the eastern part of the island, at a distance 4.5 kilometers southwest of the Mahón city.

Ibiza

Ibiza is the third largest island of the Balearic Islands. The island cower area 571 km². The island's population is about 134,000 people. Administrative center of the island is Ibiza city.

Distance to Ibiza city from “Palma De Mallorca” city is approximately 130 kilometers, from Valencia city about 80 kilometers. Length of the island coastline is 210 kilometers. Length of the island from southwest to northeast is 40 kilometers, from north-west to south-east about 16 kilometers.
Ibiza is one of the most popular holiday destinations in the Mediterranean for tourists from many European countries. It is believed that Ibiza is a good place for lovers of nightlife (for lovers of nightclubs and discos). Among the most popular nightclubs of island are called: Space, Privilege, Amnesia, Ushuaïa Ibiza Beach Hotel, Pacha, DC10, Eden, Es Paradis.

Administration of the island tends to attract more wealthy tourists and families with children. Newly built hotels on the island must be at least “5 star” hotels.
The most popular cities of the island are Ibiza and San Antonio. The largest number of tourists comes to the island during the period from early June to early October.
Ibiza Airport serves a large number of tourists, mostly from European countries. The airport is located seven kilometers south- west from the Ibiza city.
The island has a ferry service with cities Barcelona, Mallorca, Valencia, Dénia.
