Metro station “Vorobyovy Gory” (Воробьёвы горы) is located in the south-western part of Moscow, at a distance about 6 kilometers from the city center (Kremlin, Red Square). The station is one of the two stations closest to the Luzhniki Stadium. (Near the stadium also is metro station “Sportivnaya”.) A feature of the station is that it is located on the bridge over the Moskva River.
Station “Vorobyovy Gory” is located on the Moscow Metro Sokolnicheskaya line (line 1, red line), between stations “Sportivnaya” and "Universitet". The station has two vestibules. It is possible to get to both (the left and on the right) banks of the Moskva River from the station.
Northern exit is located in the “Hamovniki” area, Central Administrative District of Moscow. From here is possible to go to the Luzhnetskaya embankment and “Luzhniki” stadium.
Southern the metro station "Vorobyovy Gory" exit is located in the South-Western Administrative District of Moscow. From this exit is possible to get to the “Vorob’yovskaya” embankment (through the lower hall) and to the natural reserve "Vorob'evy Gory" (via the upper hall), to the observation deck and the Moscow University.
Metro station was opened on January 12th 1959. The modern name of the station is connected to the historical area name “Vorob'evy Gory” (literally translated as Sparrow Hills). Initially (until May 12, 1999) station called “Leninskiye Gory”. Since October 20, 1983 until December 14, 2002 the station was closed due to repair works.
Luzhnetskiy Metro Bridge (Luzhniki Metro Bridge, “Metromost”) lay across the Moskva River and connects the Luzhniki and Vorob'evy Gory areas. The upper bridge level is used for vehicles movement. At the bottom level are moving subway trains, there is a metro station "Vorobyovy Gory". The length of the metro bridge with ramps is 1179 meters, full length 2030 meters.
Metro station “Vorobyovy Gory” is unique in the city. It is built into the lower level of a bridge. Station platform has length 270 meters. It is longest in the Moscow metro and is accessible from both sides of the river. It is also the highest station above ground level at 15 meters (all other Metro stations are underground). It is also the only Moscow Metro station with windows and view on Moskva River.
