Cancun is located in the southeast of Mexico, on the Yucatan Peninsula, on the Caribbean coast. The city is home to over 720 thousand people.
Cancun is divided into two parts:
- The main part of the city, Downtown, is on the mainland.
- The hotel zone (Zona Hotelera) is located in the eastern part of the city.
A narrow strip of land Isla Cancún (200 - 700 meters wide) stretches into the sea and separates the Nichupté lagoon from the sea. Isla Cancún is about 20 kilometers long. This is where most of Cancun's hotels and beaches are located.
The beaches on the north side of the Hotel Zone are characterized by a calmer sea. Waves are more common on the beaches in the eastern part of the tourist area of Cancun.
The rainy season in Cancun lasts mainly from June to November. The dry season usually starts in December and lasts until April. Storms are most likely to occur in September and October, although severe hurricanes are rare.
The World Wide Technology Championship is a professional golf tournament, held at Mayakoba resort complex in the beautiful Riviera Maya Playa del Carmen (south of Cancún). The next Mayakoba golf tournament will be held October 31–November 6, 2022.

Riviera Maya
When going on vacation to Cancun, tourists often mean not only the city itself, but also a large stretch of coastline near the city.
The Riviera Maya is a seaside resort on the Caribbean Sea in the eastern part of the Yucatan Peninsula, south of the city of Cancun. There are several popular tourist cities, many good beaches, hotels, restaurants. In this region, not far from the coast, there are also two popular tourist islands: Cozumel and Mujeres.
How long is the coastline of the Riviera Maya? You will find different meanings in different sources. The fact is that this region is constantly developing, therefore its length is increasing. The Riviera Maya can be from 140 to 200 kilometers long.
Playa Delfines
All the beaches in Cancun are very nice! Those looking for the very best beach are often advised to visit Playa Delfines. It is located in the southern part of Isla Cancún. (Not far from Crown Paradise Club All Inclusive Resort.)
Playa Delfines is a beautiful and very large beach with fine sand and slightly intense waves located near El Rey archaeological zone.
The Maya Museum
The Museum (Museo Maya de Cancún) has one of the most significant archaeological collections of Mayan culture in Mexico. The museum building was designed by the architect Alberto García Laskurain. On the ground floor of the museum there is also the entrance to the territory of the archaeological complex of San Migelito. Museum expositions are located on the second and third floors.

Cancún Underwater Museum
Cancun Underwater Museum (Museo Subacuático de Arte, MUSA) is no ordinary museum. The collection of the museum consists of approximately 500 sculptures that are underwater in the Caribbean Sea, at a depth of three to six meters at the Cancún National Marine Park, between the Cancun and Isla Mujeres island. Not only scuba divers and snorkelers can visit this museum. MUSA offers a boat tour on Glass Bottom Boat.

Isla Mujeres
Isla Mujeres Island is a popular destination for Cancun vacationers. The island is located in the Caribbean Sea, approximately 8 miles (13 kilometers) from the city of Cancun. The island is 4.3 miles (7 kilometers) long and 2,130 feet (650 meters) wide.
The island has good beaches. The island is also very popular with snorkelling and scuba diving enthusiasts.
Most tourists come to the island for one day only and return to Cancun in the evening. The island can be reached by ferry or boat.
Ultramar Ferry offers a passenger ferry service to the islands of Isla Mujeres and Cozumel. Ferries depart to Isla Mujeres from Cancún (Puerto Juárez) and the Hotel Zone and to Cozumel from Playa del Carmen.

Chichen Itza
Chichen Itza is one of the main archaeological sites in the Yucatan Peninsula and one of the most visited archaeological sites in Mexico. The ancient city of Chichen - Itza was founded by the Mayan people around the year 500 AD.
Chichen Itza is located approximately 125 miles (200 km) west of the city of Cancun.

Cancun Airport
Cancun International Airport is Mexico's second largest passenger service. At the same time, Cancun Airport receives the largest number of international flights in the country. Most passengers arrive from US and Canadian airports.
The airport is located slightly southeast of the city. The distance from the airport to the point of the hotel zone farthest from the airport is approximately 30 kilometers.
You can get from the airport to Cancun city center with ADO buses.
