Tuscany (Italian: Toscana) is one of the most popular regions in Italy. You should definitely visit Tuscany if you are planning a trip to Italy. Here you can have a great summer vacation.

Tuscany is located in central Italy, off the western coast of Italy (The Tyrrhenian Sea) northwest of Rome and Lazio region.

Tuscany sea coast length is about 600 kilometers. (The length of the continental coast is more than 360 kilometers, and the length of the coast on the islands is about 230 kilometers.)

You will find excellent beaches along the coastline in Tuscany. Among the best beaches are named: Cavoli Beach (on the island of Elba), Castiglione della Pescaia (Grosseto province), Cala Violina, Collelungo Beach (Maremma), San Vincenzo (Livorno province), Cala di Forno (Magliano municipality), La Feniglia (municipality Orbetello).

Most popular cities and places

Florence. The historic center of Florence is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are many historical sites in the city. Must see: Santa Maria del Fiore, Uffizi Gallery (one of the oldest museums in Europe), Piazza della Signoria, Ponte Vecchio.

Pisa. The leaning Tower of Pisa is a world famous landmark. But this is not the only attraction of the city. For example, The whole Piazza dei Miracoli square (formally known as Piazza del Duomo) was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Sienna. Siena is a very popular city in Tuscany. Siena is famous for its cuisine, art, museums, medieval cityscape. Sightseeing: The Piazza del Campo, The Siena Cathedral (Duomo), The Siena Cathedral Pulpit,

Castiglione della Pescaia. Castiglione is the most visited seaside destination in Tuscany. Tourists are attracted here by beaches, natural parks, bike trails and historical sites.
Castiglione della Pescaia has a nice, sandy beach with shallow seabed. The beach is approximately 6 kilometers long and is located west of the port and the mouth of the Bruna river.
Another very long, sandy beach (beach "Marze") is located east of the port, between Castiglione della Pescaia and the marina of Grosseto.

Viareggio. Viareggio is known as a seaside resort with beautiful, sandy beaches. It is the main centre of the northern Tuscan Riviera and the good place for those wishing a lazy Italian beach holiday with day trips to Florence, Pisa and other places. Viareggio is located by the sea, about 25 kilometers from Pisa airport.

Transport

Pisa International Airport, also named Galileo Galilei Airport, is the main airport in Tuscany in terms of passengers. The Pisa International Airport is located only 1 km from the city of Pisa. There is fully automatic People Mover service for direct connections between the Pisa Centrale railway station and the airport.

Florence Airport, Peretola, formally Amerigo Vespucci Airport, is the international airport of Florence. It is the second-busiest Tuscan airport in terms of passengers. The airport isconnected with the city of Florence by a tramway service and bus line.

Many tourists arrive in Tuscany by sea. The Port of Livorno is one of the largest Italian seaports. Livorno is located at a distance of about 20 kilometers Pisa. The least expensive way to get from the port to the train station is the number 1 bus.

Several train lines cross Tuscany. You can reach many cities in Italy by train (Rome, Milan, Genoa, etc.). Train is often the fastest and most convenient form of transport. Train stations are probably in all cities of Tuscany.
