Tourism appears to be recovering in Lapland (Finland) faster than expected. The winter season 2021 - 2022 will be quite busy, almost like before the pandemic. Many tourists are expected to come not only during the Christmas season, but throughout the winter. Tours and hotels are being booked quite actively.

The majority of foreign tourists are expected to come from the UK this winter. In second place in terms of the number of tourists from France. Tourists from central European countries will also come to Finnish Lapland.

On December 4, Air France opened direct scheduled flights between Rovaniemi and Paris. Air France is slated to operate flights from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport to Rovaniemi approximately twice a week until March 5, 2022.

Earlier, Eurowings began operating direct flights from Dusseldorf to Rovaniemi.

Easyjet also opens direct flights from Milan to Rovaniemi on 19 December 2021.

Rovaniemi is known as the city of Santa Claus. Tourists from all over the world travel to Rovaniemi annually in December to meet Santa Claus.

In winter, tourists in Finnish Lapland have many interesting things to do.

  • You can watch the Northern Lights (if you're lucky).
  • You can go downhill skiing. There are several good ski resorts in the north of Finland (Levi, Ruka).
  • You can go dog sledding and reindeer sledding.
