Carnivals are among the most popular tourist events. Many travel enthusiasts have planned their trips to the carnival in advance. (We noticed bookings almost a year before the start of the carnival.) Many events have been canceled during the COVID-19 pandemic, but we are even more excited about Carnivals 2024. Which carnival would you like to attend in 2024? Rio de Janeiro? Venice? the Canary Islands, Rio de Janeiro? Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife?
- Carnival in Venice is scheduled to take place from January 27 to February 13, 2024. (Venice Carnival 2024.)
- Carnival in Rio de Janeiro is scheduled to take place on February 9-17, 2024.
- The Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival events are slated to run from January 12 to February 18 in 2024.
- Carnival in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is scheduled to take place from January 26 to February 18 in 2024.
- March 7 - March 17, 2024 Limassol Carnival. Some events will take place in Limassol.
Venice Carnival. Carnival in Venice differs significantly from other carnivals (for example, in Rio de Janeiro, Germany or the Canary Islands). This carnival is associated with old Venetian traditions and there are no such bright and noisy processions, dancers of samba schools like in Rio.
Venice, January 27 - February 17, 2024. The 2024 Venice Carnival may become the most interesting and widespread since COVID-19. There is no information yet, but we are waiting. Details will be here later.
In the Canary Islands, carnivals are traditionally held both on the island of Tenerife and on the island of Gran Canaria.
The Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is considered the second most popular and world famous carnival after the Carnival in Rio de Janeiro.

The carnival begins with the Proclamation of the Carnival.
The Queen Election Gala is one of the most popular events at the carnival.
There is also a Body Art Competition, a Dog Carnival, and a Grand Carnival Parade.
Rio de Janeiro Carnival 2024: It is sometimes called the largest carnival in the World. We would agree, but in our opinion, the best carnival is the one you are attending now.
Key dates for the 2024 Rio de Janeiro Carnival:
Start of preparations for the Carnival: November 2023.
Opening of the Carnival: Friday, February 10, 2024.
Parade of Samba Schools: Saturday, February 11, 2024 (evening).
Gala concert and selection of the Carnival Queen: Sunday, February 12, 2024.
Closing of the Carnival and Parade of Champions: Monday, February 13, 2024 (morning).
The carnivals of Cancun and Cozumel 2022 were officially canceled as a preventive measure due to the new wave of Covid-19
The Santo Domingo Carnival Parade is scheduled to take place on Sunday, March 3th on the Santo Domingo Boardwalk. The event starts at 14:00. Learn more.
The Punta Cana Carnival. The Punta Cana carnival is the place where you can see the unique costumes of African tribes. Carnival in Punta Cana usually begins on the first Sunday of February and ends on Independence Day of the Dominican Republic (February 27). Unfortunately, we do not yet have information about the Punta Cana Carnival for 2024.

The widespread adoption of vaccinations has given us hope (or even confidence) of a return to normalcy. But as the omicron variant became dominant, infections increased again, and it is possible that the planned activities could be canceled or rescheduled. Whether there will be carnivals this year is still unknown.
