The ancient fortress is one of the attractions of the city of Heraklion on the island of Crete in Greece. The fortress is known by the names The Koules (Greek: Κούλες) or Castello a Mare ("Fort on the Sea" in Italian).

It was built by the Republic of Venice in the early 16th century. The fortress has been restored, and it is now open to the public. Art exhibitions and cultural events are occasionally held at the fort. All tourists visiting Heraklion consider it necessary to see this fortress.
