The Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Maldives recently published data for the first half of 2022. Most foreign tourists arrived in the Maldives from India. In second place are the citizens of the UK. The third largest market for the tourism business of the Maldives was Russia.
Between January and July 2022, 960 thousand foreign visitors visited the islands, which is 53.3% more than last year, but still 4.8% less than in pre-Covid 2019.

The Maldives is the perfect place for a beach holiday. Resorts are located on the atolls, to some extent isolated from the whole world. Therefore, it is not difficult to find a resort here where you will be not only safe, but also protected from unwanted attention of other people. This can be very important for VIPs.
The warm Indian Ocean and comfortable weather create excellent conditions for a comfortable beach vacation.
India is located near the Maldives. This explains why the Maldives is popular with Indian citizens.
Americans have their favorite vacation spots (Hawaii, Mexico, Miami Beach), so (probably) there are not many tourists from the USA and Canada in the Maldives.
