Is it safe to travel to Europe? Travel to which countries in Europe should be avoided now?

Submitted by Visit Plus on Tue, 05/17/2022 - 17:38

There are many places in America where you can spend your holidays, where you can go on a trip. These are tourist destinations in the USA, Canada and neighboring countries (Mexico, Dominican Republic, Jamaica). What about traveling to Europe? Is it safe to travel to Europe now, amid war on Ukraine? We believe it is completely safe to travel to the EU as the other countries are not affected.

Travel has finally returned to our lives after the COVID-19 pandemic. Tourism is recovering step by step, in almost all countries, almost in the same volume. Countries are very active in lifting coronavirus restrictions. Europe's most popular tourist destinations have already seen a recovery in tourism to near 2019 levels. It's time to think about where to go on vacation this summer and autumn.

flights We checked how much it costs to fly to Europe from the USA in 2023.

The pandemic is receding, but a new disaster has come - the war in Ukraine. American tourists may have concerns: is it safe to travel to Europe now? Is it possible to plan a vacation in Europe, on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, or is it better to refrain for now?

Residents of European countries are well aware of where and how far this happens. Americans may have doubts. Not all residents of the US and Canada are well aware of where this happens and how far from popular tourist destinations.

The military conflict occupies a rather limited area in eastern Ukraine and is located quite far from popular tourist destinations in Europe.

For example, the distance from the eastern regions of Ukraine to the island of Rhodes (Greece) is about 680 miles (1100 kilometers), to the Veneto region (Italy) - about 930 miles (1500 kilometers), to Nice (Cote d'Azur) - 1180 miles (1900 km), to London - 1430 miles (2300 km).

We believe most of Europe is safe for travelers now. Spain, France, Greece, Italy, Cyprus are quite far from the conflict zone. Being next to Russia, Finland is also a safe country for tourists. (Recommended to consider as a possible travel destination.)

In addition, as we assume, none of the participants in the military conflict is interested in expanding the combat zone. Moreover, it seems to us that everyone would like to end the war (but it seems that no one yet knows how to do this).

In our opinion, travel in most European countries is safe now. But Russia is keeping some airports in the south of the country closed. It is likely that aircraft flights in this region can be somewhat dangerous. We believe that it is still better to avoid traveling to the region of the northern coast of the Black Sea.

(In the spring of 2022, many airports located in the south of Russia were closed. For example: Gelendzhik, Elista, Anapa, Krasnodar, Bryansk, Belgorod, Kursk, Lipetsk, Voronezh, Rostov-on-Don.)
