Good news for travelers - the Tren Maya train line in Mexico is opening soon

Good news for travel lovers comes from Mexico. Soon tourists will have access to another type of transport for traveling around the Yucatan Peninsula - the "Tren Maya" train. The opening of the first section of the Tren Maya railway line is scheduled for December 15, 2023.

The start of operation of the railway line is scheduled for December 2023, but full completion of construction is expected in 2024.

This is a very important project for the development of tourism in the Yucatan Peninsula. The railway lines connect Cancun and the city of Palenque (Chiapas state) with two railway lines, circling the peninsula from the south and from the north.

The southern branch of the railway line will run along the Riviera Maya coast, from Cancun Airport and through Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Tulum Airport, Puerto Aventuras and Akumal.

The railway line will create a convenient transport service for tourists and local residents and connect the most important cities and tourist areas of the Yucatan Peninsula. It will become more convenient for tourists to get to many popular places. It will also be more convenient for tourists to visit new places in southeastern Mexico that were previously difficult to access.

The length of the Cancun - Palenque route by road is approximately 500 - 53 miles (800 - 850 kilometers), depending on the chosen route.

The Cancun Tren Maya station is located next to Cancun International Airport. Travelers will find it convenient to transfer from plane to train and vice versa. It will not only be more convenient for tourists to get to already popular resorts. We (travelers) will be able to discover new places in Mexico.

Tulum Airport Station is located near Tulum. The station will have connections to Tulum International Airport.

Chichen Itza Station is located in Pista, Yucatan, close to popular attractions and Mayan temples.

Teia Mérida and Aeropuerto Internacional de Mérida stations are located near the city of Mérida. The city of Merida is the largest city in the state of Yucatan.

The Maya Train will have 34 stations in five states: Chiapas, Campeche, Tabasco, Yucatan and Quintana Roo.

How can the Tren Maya railway line be useful for tourists?
Here are some of the stations and places near the stations that you can visit.

Cancún Airport Station. Tourists arriving at Cancun Airport will be able to travel to the tourist destinations of the Riviera Maya (and the Yucatan Peninsula) by train.

Puerto Morelos station. Residents of the city believe that the beaches of Puerto Morelos are the most beautiful in the Mexican Caribbean, and many tourists agree.

Boca del Cerro station. Near the station there are: the city of Tenosique de Pino Suarez, the archaeological zone of Pomona, the archaeological zone of San Claudio, the archaeological zone of Panhale, the tourist zone of Boca del Cerro on the Usumacinta River.

Palenque station. The station is located in the city of Palenque. Recommended places to visit: Palenque Archaeological Zone, Alberto Ruz Lhuillier Museum

Chichén Itzá station. This is the closest station to the famous archaeological site, the ancient Mayan city of Chichen Itza. Chichen Itza is one of the most visited archaeological sites in Mexico.

Izamal station. The station is located in the city of Izamal. The city of Izamal is an important tourist destination in Mexico. The city was named "Magic City" (Pueblos Mágicos) by a program of the Mexican Ministry of Tourism. Nearby are: the Kinich Kakmo Pyramid, the Izamal Monastery, the Museum of National Crafts, and a distillery.

Edzna station. The station is located near the archaeological site of Edzná. Edzna is a beautiful archaeological site of the Mayan people.
