Cathedral in the city of Savonlinna (Finland) is located on a hill in the western part of the city. Distance to the cathedral from the main attractions of the city, a medieval castle Olavinlinna, is about one kilometer.

The church was built in the years 1874-1878 by the architect A. H. Dalström. The church was built in neo-gothic style. For the construction of the church were brought stonemasons from St. Petersburg and carpenters from Vyborg. The church was consecrated on 02/02/1879. The height of the cathedral to the top of the cross is 51 meters.
In 1896, the church in city of Savonlinna became the residence of the bishop. In 1925, the bishop's residence was moved to Vyborg, and later in Mikkeli, but the church continues to be called as the Cathedral (Savonlinnan tuomiokirkko).

The cathedral was badly damaged during the attack of the Soviet Air Force March 1, 1940. In the years 1947-1948 the church was restored by architect Bertel Liljequist and was re-opened December 4, 1949. During the restoration of the church the original appearance of the church has been slightly modified. Currently, the cathedral is one of the attractions of the city of Savonlinna.

Photo of the Cathedral was made during a trip to Finland in July 2013.
