The Eiffel tower photo Eiffel Tower (la tour Eiffel) is the most famous tourist attraction in Paris, a symbol of Paris and France known over the world. The tower is in first place in the list of places to visit for tourists in the French capital. According to statistics, about seven million people visit the Eiffel Tower every year.

The Eiffel Tower was built as a temporary construction. It was the entrance arch of the Paris World Exhibition in 1889 (Universal exhibition 1889). Construction was carried out for two years, from 28 January 1887 to 31 March 1889. The original height of the tower was 300.65 meters above ground level. Currently height of Eiffel Tower with the antenna is 324 meters (2012).

About the Eiffel Tower

The tower has three levels (floor) available for tourists. The first and second levels can be reached both by stairs and by lift. The third level can only be reached using the lift.

Groung level

On the ground level are located: tourist information point, ticket offices, post office, a gift shop and a cafe.

The first level

The first level of the tower is located at an altitude of 57 meters. Here are located: Museum of Eiffel Tower history, cinema, gift shop, “The 58 Tour Eiffel” restaurant, a cafe and a toilet.

The second level

The the second level of the tower is located at height of 115 meters. Here are located: elevator to the third floor, a gift shop, cafe, “Jules Verne” restaurant, a ticket service. From the second level offers a beautiful view of Paris, it is possible to make good pictures.

The third level

The the third level of the tower is located at height of 276 meters. On the third flor are located: Gustave Eiffel Office, the tower model, a champagne bar.

Three elevators lift tourists to the first and second levels. To rise to the third (top, height 276 meters) level should change elevator on the second floor.

You can rise to the first and second levels also by foot on the stairs. (There are 704 steps to the second floor.)

From the Eiffel Tower can be seen many well-known objects in Paris: Arc de Triomphe, Champs Elysées, Notre-Dame Cathedral, Opéra Garnier, Invalides, Palais de Chaillot, Palais de Tokyo, The Tuileries gardens, The Louvre Museum, The Louvre Pyramid, Hôtel de Ville, Saint-Germain, Saint-Michel, Quartier Latin, Place de la Bastille, La Madeleine, Place de la Concorde, Place des Vosges, The Marais, Sacré Coeur, Palais Royal, Panthéon, La Défense, The Montparnasse tower, The National Assembly, The Père Lachaise cemetery, Château de Versailles, Paris Stock Exchange, Bibliothèque Nationale de France (French National Library), Jardin d'Acclimatation.

Photos from this perspective are better in the afternoon, when the tower will be lit from the west. Photos from the side of the Champ de Mars are best done in the morning (when the sun is in the east).

Useful information and advices

  • On the upper floors of the tower are often blows the wind. Choose the right clothes to stay warm.
  • There are certain safety requirements at the entrance to the Eiffel Tower: not allowed glass bottles, large luggage, pets.

Opening hours

The tower is open to visitors every day, 7 days a week.
From June 5 to September 1 tower is open from 9:00 am to midnight.
At other times, access to the tower is open from 09:30 to 23:00.
Access to the tower may be temporarily closed by reason of bad weather or too many tourists on the upper floors.

How to get to

The Eiffel Tower is located on the Champ de Mars (Champ de Mars), on the banks of the River Seine, in the 7th arrondissement of Paris.
The nearest metro stations: "Bir-Hakeim" and "Passy" (line 6), "Trocadéro" (line 9), "École Militaire" (line 8).
Nearest RER station: Champ-de-Mars.
